The "EGET Harman" olive oil, produced by the Education Geriatric Ecological Agriculture Tourism Foundation (EGET) in Muğla, from olives grown in the Yaraş neighborhood, won a silver medal at the EVO IOOC Italy International Olive Oil Quality Competition held in Italy.
According to a statement from the foundation, with this award, EGET's olive oils have reached a total of eight awards, one national and seven international.
EGET Harman is produced from Memecik and Gemlik variety olives grown in the foundation's orchards in the Yaraş neighborhood of Menteşe district in Muğla.
In the international competition, the products were evaluated using a blind tasting method where brand and origin information were concealed. The silver medal indicates that the product met the quality criteria set in the competition.
Özlem Uzman, Founder and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the EGET Foundation, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they attended the award ceremony held in Palma, Italy.
Recalling that they had recently won a silver medal in a competition held in Japan, bringing their total to seven awards (one national and six international), Uzman stated that this number has risen to eight with the new award from Italy.
Uzunçu said, “We are happy to have won a new award, moreover in a competition considered to be in the ‘champions league.’ EGET’s entire effort is for students. The graduation of the young people we support is the greatest reward for us.”
Uzunçu stated that the foundation allocates all income from ecological agricultural production to scholarship programs, noting that they aim to contribute to equal opportunities in education.
Uzunçu explained that applications are received online and evaluated through a system created according to need, adding that priority is given to female students under equal conditions, and the main criterion is to reach the students most in need.
The expert stated that they aim to provide more students with scholarships through the income generated from their social entrepreneurship model, which they run based in Muğla, adding, “The fact that EGET Harman, produced from the olives of Yaraş Neighborhood, has received an international award is especially significant for us. We are continuing our efforts to transfer the income from all EGET products, from agriculture to cosmetics, to the scholarship fund.”
EGET's olive oils had previously won four awards at the Olive Japan International Olive Oil Competition in Japan, two awards at the London International Olive Oil Competition, and one award at the olive oil competition organized by the Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
On the other hand, Ula garlic, which the foundation produces using ecological methods, was awarded first prize in the "Best Garlic Producer" competition held within the scope of the Garlic Festival organized by Ula Municipality this year.
