The headquarters of an institution that incorporates ecological farming naturally had to be in keeping with its purpose and activities. After a long search, we decided that a building registered under the Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage would be the headquarters of our Foundation. Moreover, this magnificent building had a garden of nearly 1000 m² that would serve as a showroom for our ecological farming practices.
According to our contract, the building, which will be our foundation headquarters for a period of 10 years, was built in 1894 and is known in Muğla as the Hacı Latifler House. Our Founder, Safai Özer, an architect experienced in the restoration of old buildings, has transformed a dilapidated structure into a living, breathing building that seems to thank us for keeping it alive, through his efforts in both the interior restoration and the landscaping of the garden.
At our main building, we aim to create resources that will give hope to many students and to implement numerous social responsibility projects. In fact, by breathing life into this building, which was once a ruin, we have implemented the first of many social responsibility projects we have set out to carry out.
In our foundation's garden, it is possible to see various examples of permaculture. We have created raised gardens and are growing produce in these gardens. Our aim is to demonstrate that many plants can be grown without the use of any chemicals and to raise awareness among those interested.
In our garden, we have grown many plants, from peas and ground almonds to goji berries, artichokes, smooth okra, kohlrabi, and Korean melons. We have also placed red Californian worms in pipes in the middle of the gardens, allowing the soil to benefit from the valuable worm compost.
