I HAVE A MENTOR

EGET
I HAVE A MENTOR

The ‘I Have a Mentor’ project was developed by the EGET Foundation Board of Directors based on a proposal by Mr. Umut Bekir Ürkün. Following the successful completion of the first pilot application in 2017-2018, it was decided to implement a comprehensive pilot application in the 2018-2019 academic year.

WHAT IS THE ‘I Have a Mentor’ Project?

It is a project developed by the EGET Foundation to facilitate a connection between experienced, expert volunteer professionals and successful, promising young people pursuing university education, based on principles of respect, love, and sharing. Thus, the project aims to enable students to develop their personal potential and set more concrete career goals by benefiting from the knowledge and experience of their mentors, while also allowing the mentors to gain psychological and sociological benefits from this shared experience with a young individual, experiencing the joy of contributing to a young person and, consequently, to society.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FASCIST:

The facilitator is educated and experienced in their field, has internalized a volunteer perspective, is eager to share their experience and knowledge with the student, can contribute to the development of skills in line with the student's career goals, can be a role model for the student in terms of profession and personality, is willing to dedicate time and effort to the student, possesses communication and problem-solving skills, and has proven themselves as a respected individual in society.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STUDENT:

The student is open to learning and self-improvement, aware that this collaboration is entirely based on volunteerism, willing to cooperate with their facilitator, and understands the benefits they will gain from this collaboration.

How the ‘FASCIST IS HERE’ Project Works:

The ‘students’ who will participate in the project are selected from third-year and higher-year students who have applied for EGET Foundation scholarships, have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5 out of 4, and are willing to participate in the project.

The ‘pioneers’ who will participate in the comprehensive pilot program are selected by the EGET Foundation Board of Trustees, Advisory Board, or from among individuals suggested and referenced by volunteers.

Matching is carried out by the EGET Foundation.

The project lasts for one academic year. After the end of the academic year, the ‘pioneer’-‘student’ interviews may continue if desired.

Families of students wishing to participate in the project send a written document stating their approval of their child's participation in the EGET Foundation's ‘I Have a Pioneer’ project.

If the pioneer is married, their spouse also provides written confirmation of their willingness for the pioneer to participate in the project.

Pioneer-student interviews are scheduled to take place at least once a month between the pioneer and the student.

Face-to-face interviews are conducted in publicly accessible locations determined by mutual agreement between the ‘Pioneer’ and the ‘Student’.

Discussions of politics, religion, and ideological views should be strictly avoided during these interviews.

Both the ‘Leader’ and the ‘Student’ must treat each other with mutual trust, love, and respect.

The Leader is responsible for sending the meeting minutes, which they will fill out after each meeting, to the program authorities via email.

At least every three months, and as deemed necessary by the EGET Foundation Board of Directors, the ‘Leader’ and the ‘Student’ agree to participate in online meetings at different times to observe, improve, and develop the project.

WHO CAN BE A LEADER?

Those with at least ten years of work experience

Those who understand the importance of the project and are eager to volunteer

If married, those who have obtained their spouse's consent for them to also be a Leader

Those who can dedicate time to face-to-face meetings with the student at least once a month during an academic year

Those who agree to participate in online meetings before, during, and after the program to improve and develop the project.

WHO CAN BE A STUDENT?

EGET Foundation scholarships are open to third-year and higher students who have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4 and are willing to participate in the project:

They must have a letter of consent from their family allowing their participation in the project.

They must agree to meet face-to-face with their ‘mentor’ at least once a month.

They must commit to submitting the completed meeting report to the program authorities.

They must make the most of the time allocated by their ‘mentor’, contributing to their personal and professional development.

They must be open to communication and cooperative with their ‘mentor’.
