This project, developed by our founder Safai Özer, aims to draw attention to worm compost, a product that will revitalize our soils, which are on the verge of being depleted by the use of chemical fertilizers, and to develop soil conservation awareness in children from an early age.
Unfortunately, worm compost, an indispensable, 100% natural product of ecological farming, is not widely used in our country or is marketed by uncertified and uninformed producers. The chemical fertilizers used instead lead to increased salt concentration in the soil, loss of the soil's water retention capacity, decreased microbial activity, groundwater pollution; reduced yield and product quality, soil erosion, and a rapid increase in cancer rates in future generations, as is happening now.
As part of our efforts to introduce children to worm compost, which is extremely valuable for our soils, and to raise their awareness at an early age, our foundation has prepared a children's book titled "I Am Aysen the Worm."
This book, which is the first publication of the EGET Foundation, was printed by Halkalı Kağıt. This book, distributed free of charge to children in schools and various events, has created a different perception of earthworms, creatures that children often fear, highlighting how beneficial they actually are for our soil.
Each page was hand-painted by our founder, artist Safai.
