Playing with Soil, Planting Hope for the Future
The Journey of a Seed: Children learn about the life cycle of a seed in nature, then create their own seed balls and connect with nature.
Little Gardeners: The function of worm compost is explained. Each child plants seeds or seedlings in their own pot with soil and fertilizer.
Who Lives in the Soil?: Living things like worms, ants, and fungi are introduced. Their learning is reinforced through a game with the question, "Do they live in the soil or in the air?" Those who answer correctly receive a "Little Farmer" badge.
Climate Crisis and Bees Competing! Who Will Win?
The impact of climate change on bees and its consequences on the ecosystem are explained.
Children are encouraged to think in a solution-oriented way with questions such as, "How do bees cope with difficulties?", "How can we help them?"
The delicate balance of the ecosystem is discussed along with environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
Philosophy with Children: Discovering a New Continent
Groups of children create their own imaginary "new continents" using cards featuring concepts such as "clean food, justice, art, science, money…"
They decide together which concepts will be included in their imagined world and discuss these choices.
A culture of collaborative thinking is developed through questions such as "Is nature fair?" and "Do humans treat nature fairly?"
Using Pythagoras's Cup of Justice experiment, the activity demonstrates how excess disrupts the balance in nature.
Strengthening Bonds Through Outdoor Games
Through group games like tug-of-war, children both have fun and learn teamwork. They not only listen to nature but also feel that they are a part of it.
Surprise Gift: "I Am Aysen the Worm" and a Nature-Friendly Child Certificate
At the end of the activity, children are given a copy of the children's book "I Am Aysen the Worm," written and illustrated by Safaî Özer, one of the founders of the EGET Foundation.
This book, which introduces earthworms, the unseen heroes of underground life, reinforces a sense of love and responsibility towards nature.
Furthermore, children are awarded a "Nature-Friendly Child Certificate" to remind them of this beautiful connection with nature and encourage them to apply what they have learned to their daily lives.
With this meaningful event, Menteşe Municipality and EGET Foundation are not just organizing a one-day gathering; they are planting the seeds of an environmentally conscious lifestyle together.
Because with a handful of soil, a world of hope can sprout.
