The Education, Geriatrics, Ecological Agriculture and Tourism Foundation (EGET) is serving as Co-Coordinator representing Turkey in the “Holistic Environmental Education from Training to Action – HEEFTA” project, co-funded by the European Union…
The project, which started on October 3rd under the Interreg NEXT MED Program, aims to develop holistic and interdisciplinary environmental education models that connect environmental, social and economic systems in the Mediterranean region.
The HEEFTA project, with a total budget of €981,602.50, is 89% (€873,626.22) funded by the European Union. The two-year project will focus on developing green transformation, environmental awareness, sustainable skills and transnational collaborations.
The Opening Meeting, held online on November 7th, was attended by the NEXT MED Joint Secretariat, the Management Authority, the Western Mediterranean Branch Office, and project partners. The meeting shared objectives aimed at strengthening environmental awareness, green and blue skills, and collaboration between higher education institutions and civil society organizations.
HEEFTA, coordinated by the National Centre for Conservation and Alimentación (CTNC) based in Spain, brings together partners from different countries in the region: Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy), University of Patras (Greece), EGET (Turkey), Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (Egypt), and Al Khawarizmi Computing Center (Tunisia).
HEEFTA will develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and, based on it, an inclusive education program integrating sustainability and systems thinking into higher education. The project also aims to establish the HEEFTA Network, a regional partnership that strengthens awareness, inclusivity, and environmental advocacy.
