PROCEEDS OF OLIVES COLLECTED BY FARMERS BECOME SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS

The income from the olives harvested by farmers becomes scholarships for students

The Education Geriatrics Ecological Agriculture Tourism (EGET) Foundation, which operates in Muğla, provides scholarships to students with some of the income from the sale of olive oil purchased from local people.

Olive oil obtained from olives collected in Muğla’s Kuzluk region is offered to the market with the slogan “From nature to you, from you to education” and the brand “EGET Kuzluk” by the foundation established in 2015.

Some of the proceeds from the sale are used to provide scholarships to students with financial difficulties.

EGET Foundation Chairman Özlem Uzman told AA correspondent that they are not a foundation that survives only on donations.

Emphasizing that they also have an economic enterprise that will create its own revolving fund, Uzman said that they are happy to help students with some of the income obtained.

Explaining that thousands of students have applied for EGET Foundation scholarships so far, Uzman said

“We have provided scholarship support to more than a hundred students so far. We wish we could provide scholarships to all applicants and students in need. This year we are providing scholarships to 48 students. The foundation is strong enough to provide scholarships to more than a hundred students, but if we invest all the income only in scholarships, we will not be able to create a revolving fund this time. Therefore, we are taking planned steps to provide scholarships to thousands of students in the future. We ask students to donate to the foundation after they graduate and start working so that scholarships can be given to other students.”

Silver medal from Japan

Stating that they do not put any product on the market that has not been analyzed in laboratories, Uzman said that consumers can consume these products with peace of mind.

The expert reported that “EGET Kuzluk” olive oil was awarded a silver medal at “Olive Japan 2020”, one of the world’s prestigious competitions.

Stating that it was a great honor to win this award with a young brand, Uzman said, “We are very happy. 700 brands competed in the competition. We successfully represented our country and became one of the brands that received a silver medal. ‘EGET Kuzluk’ was also awarded the gold medal in the Natural Extra Virgin Olive Oil Quality Competition of Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.”
