Truffle Mushroom Will Turn Into Educational Scholarship

Known as the food of high society in the world, decorating the rich kitchens in Europe and with a market share of 6 billion dollars, efforts have accelerated for the economic cultivation of Truffles in Turkey.
In Muğla’s Ula district, “black truffle”, one of the most expensive agricultural products in the world, will be grown. The revenues to be generated from the enterprise, which is a foundation investment, will be given as educational scholarships to students with insufficient financial means.
FIRST CROPS TO BE HARVESTED IN 2019
Turkey’s largest truffle investment will be realized by the Foundation established to provide educational scholarships. EGET Foundation, which was established to support students at all levels who cannot study due to lack of financial means, will grow truffles in Armutçuk Agricultural Enterprise in Muğla’s Urla district. The first products will be available in 2019. Truffles, which are also called ‘black diamonds’ because they grow underground and resemble coal, find buyers for 1000 Euros per kilo.
FIRST TRUFFLE THEN LAVENDER HONEY
The oak saplings planted in the EGET Foundation Armutçuk Agricultural Enterprise were opened by Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Truffle Application and Research Center Director Assoc. They were inoculated with black truffles under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aziz Türkoğlu. In addition to truffle, lavender and lavender honey will also be produced as a by-product in the EGET Foundation agricultural enterprise.
20 ACRES OF LAND WILL PRODUCE 600 THOUSAND POUNDS WORTH OF MUSHROOMS ANNUALLY
In the information given by the Foundation, it was emphasized that the agricultural enterprise aims to generate an annual income of up to 600 thousand TL only from black truffles. It was stated that Turkey’s largest truffle production investment was made with a total area of 20 thousand square meters (20 acres) where saplings were planted.
‘TRUFFLE’ SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENT
Foundation officials stated that the purpose of the foundation, which cannot be changed, is to provide educational scholarships and said, “To provide both truffle cultivation in Turkey and to provide educational scholarships to thousands of students.” With this application, for the first time, the income from a herbal product will be given as an education scholarship.
CLIMATE IN TURKEY IS VERY SUITABLE
Truffles are mostly produced in France. France is followed by Spain and Italy. In Turkey, it is found to grow in the Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara and some parts of the Black Sea. Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University is leading the way to increase the recognition of truffles and turn them into an economic product.
