LAVENDERS PLANTED AND HARVESTED BY VOLUNTEERS BECOME SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS

Lavenders planted and harvested by volunteers become scholarships for students
In Muğla, lavenders planted by the Education-Geriatrics-Ecological Agriculture-Tourism (EGET) Foundation established 9 years ago was harvested for the 7th time. The harvest festival was held with the participation of volunteers, as it is every year. The income from the lavender harvest will be given as scholarships to university students.
Lavender planted by EGET Foundation was harvested. EGET Foundation, which realized the first lavender production in the coastal regions of Muğla, completed the lavender harvest for the 7th time at the Agricultural Enterprise in Ula’s Armutçuk Neighborhood. The lavender seedlings were harvested with sickles to ensure that the oils were pure and of high quality, and that they were not affected by the exhaust of the cutting engines. Thus, a higher quality lavender oil will be obtained from the lavender to be distilled. Within the scope of the festival, workshops and trainings were held for children and adults on seed ball preparation, movement and coordination training, compost making from kitchen waste, drama and interactive storytelling, olive oil tasting, essential oil extraction and home use, information about bees and natural candle making, fabric and egg dyeing with plants, sky atlas making, natural plant pest control, breathing with Ahu and yoga. The income from the lavender harvest will be given as scholarships to university students.
‘THE ONLY GOAL IS TO REACH MORE STUDENTS’
Stating that they not only proved that lavender can be grown in coastal cities, but also contributed to awareness in this field by producing lavender oil domestically, which is among the products that Turkey imports, Özlem Uzman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EGET Foundation, said: “We provide scholarships to young people who are at risk of being disconnected from education all over the country. With an exemplary model, we determine the students to whom we will give scholarships based on objective criteria through a computer. The sole purpose of all our income is to reach more students. Our lavender field is also a work of this understanding. We were happy to harvest for the 7th time with a festival. We harvested our product together with sensitive, good people and participated in cultural activities. Our lavender was produced organically, certified according to European standards, and lavender oil and water will be obtained at the same standards. This raw material will be very high quality cosmetic products.”
