The foundation’s ecological agricultural garden was the center of attention of the guests. The opening of the headquarters building of the Education Geriatrics Ecological Agriculture Tourism (EGET) Foundation, which was obtained by restoring the Hacı Latifler House, which was built in 1894 on Sekibaşı Street, was attended by Muğla Deputy Governor Fethi Özdemir, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Osman Gürün, Menteşe Mayor Bahattin Gümüş, CHP Muğla Deputy Nurettin Demir, foundation members and many citizens.
Making the opening speech, Özlem Uzman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EGET Foundation, said: “The Education, Geriatrics, Ecological Agriculture, Tourism Foundation was established to provide scholarships to students who have financial difficulties while studying and to serve the cultural and scientific development of the society. We know that a significant part of the problems our country has faced in the past and the predicament it faces today is due to lack of education. That is why, from the moment the idea of establishing a foundation formed in our minds, our first preference was to establish an education foundation. And EGET Foundation has chosen to be a hope for students who cannot continue their education due to financial constraints. ” he said.
Speaking about the importance of the day, Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Osman Gürün stated that he likened EGET Foundation to the village institutes and said the following. If you do something different from the normal view of society, they say you are crazy. That’s why we can call you Mad Safai. The works of your madness are also very precious to us. Ms. Özlem, one of the founders of this foundation, and brother Safai tell us something different. There are wrong productions in the system and studies are being carried out that can harm the society and take it backwards in a way that will show a reverse development. What we have experienced in our country has surprised, saddened and frightened us all. How we can stop this is why we are here today. With such beautiful and meaningful organizations, if we can raise good people in the footsteps of Atatürk and in the light of the republic and democracy, we will have succeeded. You will help our young people both financially and in terms of personality by working like village institutes by making production beyond the ordinary understanding of foundations. I am glad you are here,” he said.
After the speeches, the guests toured the ecological agricultural garden created with the support of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Painter Safai Özer, and many volunteers and foundation members. Organic and ecologically produced fruits and vegetables were highly appreciated.
